Description:
After the end of the First World War, the anger of thousands of laborers explodes in the countryside of Ferrara, exploited for decades in the reclamation work of the valleys infested by malaria. The Callegaris are a family of dockers and washerwomen who cross this universe of poverty and idealism, of water and land, in which it is the women, first of all Ginisca, who try to change the fate of their daughters. After the war, the province of Ferrara finds itself under the unchallenged dominion of the red leagues, then it is overwhelmed by the reaction of the blackshirt squads and it is in this climate of hatred and violence that Tina and Lucia, daughters of a fascist landowner and a socialist league leader, meet. A love story in the land of Balbo, Matteotti and Don Minzoni. Supported by a writing that combines the enveloping tones of magical realism with the precise tones of historical narrative, this choral novel, full of vitality and unforgettable characters, drags readers along, giving us a story to which we still belong
