La nevicata del secolo
Description:
Rai Uno, weather forecast, December 31, 1984. Colonel Andrea Baroni announces an anomalous cold wave for Italy due to "a stratospheric polar warming". Between January 3 and 4, it begins to snow on the Island of Elba, Ischia and much of Sardinia. Two days later, St. Peter's Square is covered in white. In Foggia the thermometer drops to 10 degrees below zero. In the cities of the North, a snowfall begins that will paralyze them. This "winter of the century" has generated a powerful memory machine, becoming a source of inspiration for novels, plays, songs and photographic works, but it has also hidden the difficulties of Italy at the time: corruption, terrorism, economic crisis and unemployment. The past has been fragmented, with some memories preserved while others have sunk into oblivion. Arnaldo Greco and Pasquale Palmieri try to tell the story of this Italy that, under the snow, seems to put the race towards modernity on hold
