L'olivo bianco
Description:
On a hot August night, when fires rage in the countryside of Spillace, three friends gather to chat until late. It is a ritual they perform every evening, perhaps to try to at least put out the fire they feel inside, in the restless summer in which, after high school, they must decide what to do with their lives. While Riccardo and Marco think about leaving Calabria to emigrate to Germany, Antonio cannot decide: the only certainty at that moment is his love for Elena... But there is also another thought that crowds Antonio's mind and concerns the events of Luca, a mysterious relative that only grandmother Sofia had known: to her, Luca had left his house and a strip of rough and steep land, cultivated with difficulty and transformed into a small fertile paradise, with fruit trees and all the varieties of olive trees of Calabria. Grandma Sofia's stories are gripping and seem to hide a secret: Luca had attracted the envy of his fellow villagers and, after a night when gunshots were heard, no one knew anything about him. All that remained was Luca's Olive Tree, the land usually frequented by Antonio's family who goes there every year to spend Easter Monday. But who was Luca? Had he really left for America or was he dead? And why had he left his property to Grandma Sofia? As in a game of mirrors between nature and soul, hired by his father to remove the thorny vine that had invaded the olive grove over the years, Antonio will try to shed light on this mysterious story: by freeing Luca's Olive Tree from the thorny shoots, he will delve ever deeper into the heart of the truth, finally managing to put his thoughts in order as well
