The year is the Genroku era. A series of mysterious incidents occur on Sado Island, which is suffering from a sharp decline in gold and silver production. A chest of 1,000 ryo disappears from the treasury, a cave-in accident that claimed the lives of 36 people, a body crucified on a Noh stage, and a body hanging from a split door... At each crime scene, a bloody Noh mask called "Obeshimi" is left behind. Shizuno Yoemon, a furiganeshi (master of ceremonies), is ordered by the magistrate to uncover the truth behind the incidents as an assistant to Mase Kichidayu, the hall officer. While initially at odds with Kichidayu, as he continues his investigation he becomes deeply drawn to Kichidayu's talent, character, and mysterious past. What is the terrifying secret hidden in the Sado Gold and Silver Mine?! When the mystery of the Noh mask is solved, a shocking truth that will shake the world will be revealed! It was well received when it was serialized in the Niigata Nippo. After the serialization ended, a reader posted in the December 15th edition of the paper saying, "The serialized novel has been energizing me every day." Local sake brewer Obata Sake Brewery has released a pure rice unfiltered sake called "Tabakarasu," which has the same name as the sake that appears in the work, and collaboration with the novel is creating excitement in Sado as well. It will be serialized in the Niigata Nippo from March 28th, 2023, until November 22nd. The daily illustrations are created by students from a local art school, and interesting illustrations are published every day. At the time of the serialization, local sake brewer Obata Sake Brewery released a pure rice unfiltered sake called "Tabakarasu," which has the same name as the sake featured in the work, creating excitement in Niigata and Sado.
