Die Frau an der Bushaltestell
Description:
"The Woman at the Bus Stop" tells the story of two lovers who do not live together, yet cannot bring themselves to let go of one another. The narrative is complicated by the fact that it is recounted by a close friend of the couple - a man who, from the very beginning, had fallen in love with Isabel himself: "the most beautiful woman in the city." While researching these long-ago events, he uncovers an act of romantic betrayal committed by his friend against Isabel - a revelation that he simply cannot get out of his head. Thus unfolds an odyssey of love, friendship, jealousy, and political unrest, set against the backdrop of the mid-1960s. With a sense of measured reflection, Schneider looks back upon those early years - a time when every pang of heartbreak felt like the greatest pain imaginable, every moment of happiness seemed eternal, and every act of betrayal felt utterly unforgivable. What he discovers is an era overshadowed by humanity's most monstrous crimes, and three representatives of a generation searching for self-definition, for rebellion, but above all, for love and a sense of belonging.
