Provenzalisches Licht
Description:
In Saint-Valéry, star designer Fontanel is causing a stir with his fashion show. The crème de la crème are set to attend, while tourists litter the town. However, Fontanel receives death threats, and Police Chief Pierre Durand is tasked by the new mayor with investigating the matter. Then, a murder actually occurs. ∎ In this eleventh installment, Sophie Bonnet focuses on the textile industry and traditional Provençal fabric printing. Drawing on her expertise—she previously ran a fashion agency under her real name, Heike Koschyk—she highlights the industry's environmental destruction and profit-driven practices, contrasting them with age-old traditions. All of this unfolds against the backdrop of her exquisitely described Provençal landscape, populated by wonderfully distinctive locals. She develops the village setting convincingly, introducing a new mayor, while Pierre finally gets to conduct an official investigation. Human, complex, suspenseful, and truly refreshing.
