Description:
In those times when economic growth was the top priority, in villages of the 1950s and 60s, there was the "ordinary life" of people who, despite suffering from damage caused by wild animals, made a living through slash-and-burn agriculture and entrusted their hopes to festivals. This is a photo essay by photographer Isao Sudo, who belonged to the Japan Tourism and Culture Research Institute, where Tsuneichi Miyamoto was the director, and has faithfully continued to "walk, see, and hear" in villages all over Japan. There you will find scenes from an era that can never be experienced again, such as the "Ginryo Kagura" in Saito City, Miyazaki Prefecture, the "slash-and-burn agriculture" in Nishimera Village, Miyazaki Prefecture, the "Shishiuchi" in Toei Town, Aichi Prefecture, the "Ta-asobi" and "Dengaku" in Sanshin-Enshu, and the Ainu "Iyomante (bear sending)"...
