Memória do chão : romance
Description:
In this autofictional novel, Marcelo Labes narrates the formative years of a boy at a boarding school in southern Brazil. A touching book about the hardships of adolescence, the experiences and people who change our lives—and the reckoning we must, at some point, make with the past. Rafael comes from a humble family in Santa Catarina and finds in the possibility of becoming a Lutheran pastor the solution to all his problems. Admitted on a scholarship to the Evangelical School, a boarding school in Rio Grande do Sul, he soon discovers that his plans have failed: the pre-theological course had been discontinued, and he is left to pursue a teaching degree. However, this detour ends up being the beginning of the great transformative experience of his life. In the first person, we follow the days and nights at school (and the escapes outside of it) and everything that this period represents for a teenager in full formation: the friendships, the passions, the drinking, and the discoveries beyond the classroom. In the midst of his school years, we also meet Rafael, now an adult and lonely man, whose memories always seem to lead him to the same place.
