Description:

"What are CROCODILE TEARS?" asks a son to his father. The explanation, full of irony and intelligent humour, serves as the plot for this classic of children's literature created by André François, one of the best cartoonists and renovators of illustration in the second half of the twentieth century. This is a "book-object" published for the first time in 1956 and one of the first examples of experimentation with all the possibilities of the book-album components: text, image and support. A pioneering proposal with an unusually landscape format in which the game and reading begin before opening it, in its die-cut container box with the form of postal mail in which a crocodile travels that pokes its head out and that we can contemplate in all its extension when unfolding the front and back covers of the book. Inside, a delirious text, which appeals to both the protagonist and the reader, alternates with expressive black and white illustrations with orange and green spots. A collector's item that has inspired great illustrators such as Quentin Blake, David McKee and Emilio Urberuaga, and which Kalandraka is recovering to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
