That day, Mole spent the entire morning busy with a thorough spring cleaning of his home. He bustled about with brooms, rags, a ladder, a whitewash brush, and a bucket of whitewash, until his sleek black fur was splattered with white streaks, his back ached, and his arms felt limp with exhaustion. Up above, the world was alive with the vibrant spirit of spring; it was hardly surprising, then, when he suddenly flung aside the whitewash brush, exclaimed in frustration, "Cleaning—what a bore!" and dashed right out of the house.
