Hitsugi no kariudo
Description:
Only the dead know the truth. A building collapses in Shinjuku's Kabukicho district. Among the victims are an active-duty detective, a former yakuza member, a Chinese mafia figure, and an unidentified woman... What were they doing there that day? A dilapidated building suddenly gave way, a thunderous roar echoing through Kabukicho that night. Ten dead, eight injured. Amidst this unprecedented catastrophe, the Metropolitan Police Department struggles to identify two of the deceased: a man with a tiger tattoo on his back and a woman carrying multiple membership cards under different names. Sae, a detective from the Shinjuku Precinct tasked with identifying the victims, discovers the name of a junior colleague, Taki, among the dead. Yet, it seems strange that Taki—who was assigned to the Ikebukuro substation—was at the scene. What was he doing there? Together with Akie, Taki’s ex-wife who shares the same question, Sae traces the victims' final movements. In doing so, a connection emerges between Taki and an unsolved case from eighteen years ago. Could one of the victims be linked to that cold case? The investigation begins to take an unexpected turn.
