Il primo desiderio
Description:
Do we exist even without anyone watching us, or knowing us? Isabel is restless, selfish, elusive. Isabel is tender, creative, open-hearted. Isabel--slender and uninhibited; Isabel--inexperienced and guarded. Isabel, who is always running away; Isabel, who is home. Isabel is as many women as there are people who look at her. Her father, who cannot bear to see her grow up, takes her to the Kenyan savanna to distance her from herself. Cori--her first love, her first time, the first of many betrayals. The neighbor who Isabel gifts stories to, allowing her to taste fragments of a real life despite the broken body that imprisons her. The cleaning woman, forced by a young Isabel to wear gloves so as not to contaminate the beautiful family home with the grime of the impoverished neighborhood she comes from. Isabel has left a unique mark on everyone she has met, as if her very form were constantly shifting. And in loving, hating, fearing, watching, or keeping her at a distance, each of them reveals their own primal desire to exist, to endure--and, perhaps, to be saved
