Le parole della pioggia
Description:
The umbrella women are university students, housewives, bored unemployed women, wealthy widows, women with no alternatives, people with astonishing futures. "I was born on a rainy day": only after uttering this phrase do they pick up the immense umbrella they've chosen, put one foot out into the street, and begin walking alongside their customers, accompanying them wherever they choose--Tokyo in the water is magnificent, a thousand cities rolled into one--and above all, listening to their stories. The conversations that take place under the umbrella remain secret. They talk, they fall silent, they stumble, they forget the world outside. Because in their stories, the women all agree on at least one thing: time passes differently under the umbrella. Among them, only Aya seems born for this. She's been an umbrella woman since long before she began this job. Everything about her evokes June--the rainy season--and summer walks over her. Aya always carries with her a well-worn copy of the Dictionary of Rain Words : the rain of restlessness, made of tiny, endless grains, the scented rain, the one that picks cherry blossoms from the branches, the rain as fine as a cat's fur, the freezing winter rain, and the rain that passes quickly, and the rain that falls on rivers, and hundreds more. But more than the rain, Aya waits for Toru, a young boxer training to run up and down the steepest street in the city. She sits at the top and waits for him, even if he will never win. Because in life, you also need those who lose, those who accept their fall, and from the ground, they can see the world from a new perspective
