Mandorla amara
Description:
It is a hot July morning when lawyer Maria Giulia De Rosa and forensic pathologist Adriano Calì, out for a trip at sea, hear an alert from the Port Authority over the radio: a large vessel in the waters where they are sailing appears to be in distress. Their attempt to help, however, proves futile—everyone on board the luxury yacht is dead. Drawing on his experience, Calì quickly realizes that the victims were killed by a dose of cyanide, possibly mixed into some almond milk. He immediately calls his friend, the deputy police commissioner. Vanina, who had been away for a few days, rushes back to the city of Catania to dive into an intense investigation. Naturally, she can count on the support of retired commissioner Biagio Patanè. This time, however, the veteran officer can only assist by phone; he is in Palermo, by the side of his beloved wife, Angelina, who has just undergone delicate heart surgery.
