Nostra signora che sei nell'attico : ricordati di santificare le feste
Description:
Simon, Lia, and Valerio are three siblings with an innate talent for failure. Living together in a tiny apartment on the outskirts of Milan, they have spent thirty years facing one closed door after another: a mother who ran off, three different fathers who vanished without a trace, and a grandmother—a ruthless businesswoman, far removed from any fairy-tale archetype. Franca (don’t you dare call her "Grandma"!) may dress modestly and keep a crucifix prominently on display, but beneath that exterior lies a person distilled from pure malice, greed, and spite. As miserly as any character out of Dickens, the "Lady" finds her greatest pleasure in tormenting her employees, her household staff, and—above all—her grandchildren. Each week, they take turns "sacrificing" themselves to spend Sunday with her, enduring all manner of abuse in the hope of an eventual inheritance. Everything changes the day Simon receives an unusual assignment from Franca: travel to Marseille to retrieve a painting. What should have been a "piece of cake" quickly spirals into a chaotic, cascading series of disasters—involving bungled schemes, clumsy blackmail, and absurd lies—as the siblings naively attempt to outsmart their grandmother. Federica Bosco puts a fresh spin on the commandment "Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day" in this brilliant, cynical, and touching comedy about modern-day hypocrisy. It is an irresistible story about a family where laughter is the only thing keeping them from going completely mad.
