Tanta ancora Vita
Description:
Kostya is ten years old when he sets off to reach his grandmother, Irina, who works as a domestic helper in Naples. In his backpack, he carries a photograph of a mother he has never known and an address. His father is at the front, defending a newly invaded Ukraine. Navigating past soldiers trying to stop him at the border and receiving help from strangers along the way, the boy finally arrives. Vita—the woman for whom his grandmother works—finds him asleep on her doormat. Four years earlier, Vita lost her own son; she now spends her days alone, or in the company of Irina, who has read Dante and speaks Italian with the eloquence of a thirteenth-century poet. This unexpected young guest draws Vita back into a role that fate had once taken away from her. Later, when Kostya’s father is reported missing in action, Irina returns to her home country to search for him. On an impulse, Vita decides to join her, determined to offer her help. After all, attempting to save someone else may be the only way to save ourselves.
