Description:
A mythical place of childhood, but also of madness. Mysterious archive of our history, and of its fabulation. Naïve shelter, or hiding place of ghosts and fantasies. How many lives can fit in an attic? Between the dust and the noises of the wood, Madalena Sá Fernandes revisits intimate episodes, memories of violence and relationships that left marks, balances between the learning of autonomy and the tenderness of motherhood, shows how the body learns to adapt to loneliness. Inclined space between the ground and the sky, it is in the attic that unused objects accumulate, stories that no one knows, photographs to be arranged, fears that persist. Immersing herself in this place of enclosure and creation, of surveillance and freedom, the author questions the very idea of home: shelter, prison, promise, fiction. Madalena Sá Fernandes tests the resistance of floors and beams as if they were the gear of memory, peeks from the high window at the treetops to defeat fear, surrenders to silence so that her writing can be heard. An attic, after all, is never empty. Built on the idea of a perpetual movement between past and future - between the houses we inherit, the ones we try to build and the possibility, always uncertain, of finding a place where we can finally stay. Attic is part of the tradition of narratives that are a key to the present we share.
