Description:
Tertuliano Máximo Afonso, a secondary school history teacher, "lives alone and is bored," "was married and doesn't remember what led him to marriage, divorced and now doesn't even want to remember the reasons for the separation," and has long seen his history studies as a meaningless fatigue and a beginning without end. One night, at home, while watching a film on television, "he got up from his chair, knelt before the television, his face as close to the screen as his vision allowed, 'It's me,' he said, and again felt the hairs on his body stand on end." After this unexpected discovery of a man exactly like himself, Tertuliano Máximo Afonso, the one who lives alone and is bored, sets out to discover this other man.
