Foi o preto
Description:
Shortly after a football match of the club he supports, José Lima is surprised near the stadium by the police and a group of civilians, who accuse him of having participated in altercations with supporters of the opposing team. Months later, what then seemed like just a regrettable misunderstanding will turn into an ordeal. José is arrested at home, suspected of attempted murder, and taken to prison for a crime he did not commit. Set in 1990s Portugal, and with Cape Verdean culture and the wounds of colonial times as its backdrop, Foi o Preto (It Was the Black Man) is a raw story about racism and injustice, narrated with mastery, restraint, and authority.
