Matai-vos uns aos outros
Description:
António Santiago, 36 years old, "an agent of the Judicial Police out of necessity - and on the advice and through the connections of his godfather, head of the morals brigade," arrives one day in Vila Velha with a very clear mission: to discover who killed Manuel dos Santos, an important local figure, a land speculator and merchant of dubious scruples. The police are called by Dona Carmo, now a widow, who claims her husband was poisoned. The main suspects? The bank director, the priest, the officer of the National Guard, the council administrator, the personal physician, the nieces, among others... In other words: all ten guests who had dined the previous night at Bulhão, the deceased's residence and a mansion envied by all. It will take the investigator a week to unravel the case. Banned by the fascist regime, "Kill Each Other" engages the reader from the first page and constitutes a refined fresco of a country where hypocrisy, impunity, and repression go hand in hand.
