El ladron de esperanzas
Description:
“Mexico’s real story would begin with him . . . and it would also end with him.” Antonio M. Lugo Olea knew how to spark the imagination and hopes of millions of Mexicans, by offering a head-on approach against corruption, impunity, and organized crime. He also promised to do whatever possible to end poverty, marginalization, and injustice. And so the people, fed up with governments made up of inept politicians and thieves, gave their vote to AMLO and hence the presidency of the country. To make matters worse, his party also won an overwhelming majority in Congress, an important task in order to support his agenda. This great leader cannot afford to fail. He sees himself as a leader predestined to build a new nation; an enlightened being whose mission is to not steal the hopes of the less fortunate; a visionary creator of previously denied opportunities. But as he rises to power he is faced with an inflexible and stubborn reality. The great president doesn’t seem to realize that his good intentions aren’t enough and that he will need other things in order to keep his promises. What will be the faith of those Mexicans who blindly believed in his magical words?
